Scareware & Fake AV

Scareware typically pops up fake alert messages in an attempt to trick you into buying a fake removal tool. Scareware can deeply embed itself onto a system, crippling the system and blocking access to common removal tools and system utilities.

What is a Rogue Scanner

Rogue scanners are often advertised as a free antivirus download or free online scan. Once on the system, the rogue scanner typically displays false virus alerts, with instructions to buy the "full version" in order to remove the fictional infections.

System Fix (aka SystemFix)

System Fix causes significant disruption to the infected computer, blocking access to programs and files and acting as a downloader for additional malware.

Antivirus Action

Antivirus Action is classified as a rogue scanner, a category of scam software sometimes referred to as scareware. Rogue scanners masquerade as antivirus, antivirus, or other security software, claiming the user's system is infected in order to trick them into paying for a full version.
