Configure Password Security Settings in Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6

So you've setup your Mac login password and even disabled the guest account. There's just one more set of password tweaks you need to make to secure your new Mac. Here's how to configure the general security settings to take full advantage of your system password.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 5 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Click the Apple icon in the upper left portion of the screen and choose System Preferences.
  2. Double click to open the Security icon and then select the General tab.
  3. Make sure each of the following are checked:
    • Require password to wake this computer
    • Disable automatic login
    • Require password to unlock each System Preference pane
    • Use secure virtual memory
    • Disable remote control infrared receiver
  4. To save these changes, just close the Security window.
