Removing the FriendGreetings application

You may be able to use the Add|Remove Programs feature to uninstall both Friend Greetings and WinSrv Reg. To use Add|Remove programs:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. Double click the Add or Remove Programs icon
  5. Browse through the list of installed programs to locate Friend Greetings
  6. Click Remove Repeat step 5, searching for and removing WinSrv Reg.

Some users have reported that Friend Greetings does not appear in their Add|Remove programs list. If this is the case, search for and delete the following files:

Friend Greetings.msi or Friend%20Greetings[1].msi
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Otms.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\OTDock.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Otglove.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Otupdate.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Winsrvc.dat
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Winsrvc.exe

The above information was obtained from McAfee's AVERT Labs. McAfee users with engine 4.1.60 or above can use their Daily DAT files (October 24th or later) for detection and removal with the command-line scanner. For complete details, see the McAfee description (complete with screen shots of the Friend Greetings application installation), at http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99760.htm. McAfee clearly points out that Friend Greetings is not a virus, and provides detection as a form of application protection to protect users who might have unwittingly installed an application for which they did not fully understand the implications of the EULA.
