How to Remove Pretty Park

Difficulty Level: Hard    Time Required: 30 minutes

1. Click on the Start button and select "Run..." from the Start menu. Type REGEDIT and click on "OK" to run the Regedit program.
2. Click on plus symbol for each directory, in order: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, CLASSES, exefile, shell, open.
3. Click on the "open" folder under the shell directory.
4. If infected with Pretty Park the open folder will contain Files32.vxd "%1"%*. Use the File menu to import the Pretty Park Registry fix or perform steps 8-9 below.
5. Double-click on the "Files32.vxd ""%1"%*" file to edit the string, removing the word "Files32.vxd". Keep the "%1"%* value data and click on OK.
6. Select "Exit" from the Registry menu.
7. Reboot the computer in DOS mode. This can be done from a clean boot disk or by pressing F8 upon starting up Windows to enter "Command Prompt" only.
8. Type CD C:\Windows\System to enter the Windows system folder on the hard drive.
9. Type DEL files32.vxd and confirm the file deletion (yes).
10. Locate and delete all copies of Pretty Park on the computer to avoid another infection. Diligently search email files and attachment folders.
11. Type WIN to start up Windows and test functionality of all software.
    

Tips:

1. Back up all work prior to editing the registry.
2. Modify the registry before deleting the "files32.vxd" file from the Windows system directory. Modify the registry before deleting the "files32.vxd" file from the Windows system directory.
3. When searching the CLASSES directory in the registry you'll do a lot of scrolling. Do NOT open similar directories such as ".exe".
