How to Remove Kak.Worm

Difficulty Level: Average    Time Required: 15 minutes

1. Close all email programs that may be open on the infected computer.
2. Install the Internet Explorer patch available at http://www.microsoft.com/security/bulletins/ms99-032.asp.
3. Click on the Start button and select "Find Files or Folders..." from the Find menu.
4. Search all drives on the computer for KAK.HTM and delete if found.
5. Perform another search to locate and delete KAK.HTA.
6. Run email programs and remove the default signature file if one is in use. Create a new signature file if desired.
7. This removes the active portions of the worm from the computer. While a change in the registry still exists, the worm will no longer function on the computer.
   

Tips:

1. It's very important to have the IE patch installed to avoid BubbleBoy type exploits in the wild.
2. Turning off the Preview Pane function in Outlook programs protects against Kak.Worm and similar malware.
3. Delete questionable emails to avoid spreading the worm or reinfecting the system.
