New, More Insidious, Variant of Induc Virus Discovered

It was just a little over 2 years ago that Bitdefender first discovered the Induc.A virus. The Induc.A virus was unique inasmuch as it spread via programs compiled with the Delphi compiler (versions 4 through 7). Now Bitdefender has discovered a new variant, which they've dubbed Induc.P, that ups the ante by:

  1. Targeting both the standard Delphi compiler and the Delphi database compiler Embarcadero (RAD Studio 2005 through RAD Studio XE);
  2. Includes a backdoor / botnet and downloader component;
  3. Also spreads by infecting any executable on the PC.

According to an ESET blog post, this latest variant of the Induc virus has been spotted across the globe but is most prevalent in Eastern Europe and South America. To counter the Induc threat, Bitdefender has provided free removal tools (both 32-bit and 64-bit) for the Induc family of malware.
