Chrome: Google's GreenBordered Browser

Tuesday September 2, 2008
In May 2007, Google quietly acquired GreenBorder Technologies which provided a virtualization sandbox for untrusted Web browser content and enabled users to flush all remnants of visits to designated sites. Just a few months prior to that acquisition, GreenBorder Technlogies was awarded patent #7191469 which outlined "Methods and systems for providing a secure application environment using derived user accounts". In just a few hours, Google is expected to release a beta version of Chrome, a new open source browser that appears to borrow heavily on the GreenBorder technology - and the patent. Google has announced their intent via way of a comic strip announcement. The new browser is expected to debut around 2 p.m. EST at www.google.com/chrome.
