Antivirus Prevalence Lists: Useful or Not?

Recently, Infoworld magazine reported that, "Security vendor PC Tools has questioned the usefulness of the threat lists used by many security companies to warn of current malware attacks." The debate centers on the top ten and top twenty virus lists published monthly by antivirus vendors. Based on volume, these lists are heavily skewed towards email worms.
