The Tax Scam Cometh
Friday April 11, 2008
April 15th is looming, putting pressure on late tax filers and creating anticipation for those expecting a refund. Scammers take advantage of the season with specially crafted phishing email masquerading as correspondence from the IRS. Most typical are IRS tax refund phishing scams. Remember, the IRS will NEVER initiate communications via email so any email received from the IRS unexpectedly is a scam. In addition, avoid clicking any links in email or on a website which claim to point to the IRS website. Instead, type the url manually into your browser address bar - www.irs.gov - to ensure you're not falling victim to a fraudulent link scam.
