Spyware Nabs Bomb Threatening Teen
Thursday July 19, 2007
A 15-year old Lacey Washington student was nabbed by authorities for making bomb threats against his former high school. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation allegedly used spyware targeting the youth's MySpace account, which the teen apparently named 'Timberlinebombinfo'. Timberline is the name of the school to which the teen sent several threatening email. According to a PC World report, the monitoring tool used was dubbed CIPAV, short for Computer & Internet Protocol Address Verifier. The teen pled guilty to the charges on Monday, receiving a 90 day sentence and $8,852 in restitution costs.
