Plain is Better

One of the easiest ways to avoid being taken in by greeting card scams and phishing is to read your email in plain text only. Absent the smoke and mirrors of stolen logos and falsified links, it's far easier to spot the miscreant mail. Plain text email also protects against auto-executing malware (including exploited image files embedded in HTML) - and it prevents web bugs and other tracking tricks. There are so many good reasons for reading email in plain text only, one has to wonder why anyone reads mail any other way.
