Cisco Buys IronPort for $830 Million

Network giant Cisco today announced "a definitive agreement to acquire the privately held company, IronPort Systems, Inc. of San Bruno, Calif." IronPort produces a line of web security and email antivirus and antispam appliances geared for businesses. According to Richard Palmer, senior vice president of Cisco's Security Technology Group, the IronPort solutions will be "integrated into the existing Cisco Self-Defending Network framework." The $830 million offer price is a mix of stocks and cash, and the deal is subject to standard regulatory compliance measures.
