Beginning January 6th and repeating every two weeks thereafter throughout the remainder of 2006, the Sober.X worm (aka Sober.Y) is hard-coded to download additional malware onto infected users' systems. Sober.X is listed in Panda Software's top ten virus and spyware list based on detections by Panda ActiveScan in December 2005. (Panda refers to Sober.X as Sober.AH). And antivirus vendor Sophos reports that Sober.X (which they call Sober.Z) accounted for 78.92% of all malware reported to Sophos in December 2005. Now's the time to scan your PC thoroughly for the presence of the Sober.X worm - before it morphs and while it is still easily detectable by up-to-date antivirus software.
