Life Is Beautiful, Hoaxes Are Not

We're all pretty familiar with the phrase "Act in haste, repent in leisure". And most of us probably apply that nugget of wisdom to the big things. But the fear of the unknown prompts many to disregard the lesson. Especially when it comes to things like forwarding hoaxes. The most common excuse is, "I sent it just in case". The belief seems to be that there are no real victims that result from forwarding an email hoax. But that's not always the case - the SULFNBK.EXE virus hoax led to unprecedented numbers of people deleting a perfectly legitimate operating system file.

One particularly tenacious virus hoax has had no trouble staying in circulation. The dire sounding warning about "Life is Beautiful.pps" continues to be forwarded by a seemingly endless supply of new 'victims'. The email claims to be based on information from "Microsoft and Norton", then goes on to say that "AOL has already confirmed its dangerousness".
