Gmail: Slow Mail Workaround
Thursday December 8, 2005
When I am doing antivirus software testing, if I have just one or two files I need to transfer to my main PC, I'll use a web-based email account to do so. But I've noticed Gmail is incredibly slow - I can send an email with an attachment to one of my other email accounts, and it can be several minutes (even hours) before it finally shows up. So today, I hit upon the perfect workaround for the sluggish Gmail. After I sent the email with the attachment, I logged on to the same Gmail account from my main PC and just downloaded the attachment from the Sent folder.
I thought I'd pass this workaround along, since others may have the same problem. Because in the time it's taken me to logon, retrieve the download from the Sent folder, and write this blog entry, I've still not received the email from Gmail.

ooh, clever one.
Even simpler would be to save it as a draft…sort of the same but a little easier to get to when it’s time to find it, IMO…since most people have fewer drafts than messages they’ve actually sent.
Hey great tip!!!
Thanks for sharing.
It’s a clever way. Gmail is really bothering me. I bought a new iMac, and so there was a gap of about two weeks before I set up mail in the new machine, and here’s where the problem is: the messages over this period seem to get stuck somewhere. They never land in the mailbox. Why doesn’t Gmail do something? Or does it deliberately make this happen?
I’ve experienced the same slowdown. Interesting that there is no slowdown in the google chrome browser. Thats one way to move us all over from firefox….
You could just send it to yourself, though it may still be slow. I’ve never had problems with Gmail being slow.
