Free virus protection

Free antivirus software may lack some of the more robust features found in their paid counterparts; detection and response times may also suffer slightly. But free antivirus is always a better choice than no antivirus. And for those who don't want the overhead of an all-in-one security suite, a free virus scanner may be ideal. Here's a list of free antivirus software, including some special use tools such as McAfee Stinger. But if you are going the à la carte route, be sure to include a firewall. Here's a selection of free firewall software that will help keep your system attacker-proof.
