Top Picks Prove Their Merit

The recent Zotob Internet worms remind us of how important it is to keep our antivirus up-to-date. But for lucky users of some antivirus scanners, no updates were required. BitDefender, one of this site's Top Picks for Antivirus Software, detected 6 of 6 Zotob variants without updates, as did another Top Pick - Platinum Internet Security with Panda's TruPrevent technology. A third Top Pick, F-Prot, detected 3 out of the 6 without updates. And AVK, yet another Top Pick for Windows Antivirus Software, uses the BitDefender engine and nailed 6 of 6 as well.

Response tests were performed by AV-Test.org, a project of the University of Magdeburg and AV-Test GmbH, Andreas Marx. A total of twenty-seven scanners were tested.
