911 Virus Writer Sentenced

Tuesday March 15, 2005
David Jeansonne, 44, of Metairie, Louisiana, has been sentenced to six months in prison and six months home detention for writing and distributing a Trojan targeting WebTV users in July 2002. The Trojan reprogrammed the user's service, directing WebTV login attempts to local 911 services. According to the DOJ, the bogus emergency calls to 911 prompted unnecessary police dispatches. Jeansonne has also been ordered to pay restitution of $27,100 to Microsoft and pay a special assessment of $200. Jeansonne pled guilty to the charges in February 2005. He has been in custody since October 2004.
